Grand Army of the Republic Cemetary Park - Historic Plan
The GAR cemetery is located in the north of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. 526 graves and a monument memorialize veterans of the Civil War. Karen Kiest worked with the Friends of the Grand Army of the Republic (FGAR) to implement the conceptual plan she completed for this historic site. To reduce maintenance requirements, Parks removed the north hedge and replanted the area with native woodland shrubs. Grant and community donations have funded a new entryway, memorial stone and informational kiosk for the Cemetery.
