New Science Center, Centralia College

The New Science Center (NCS) at Centralia College is a $32M, 70,000 square-foot complex built to meet the standard for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System Gold rating. The landscape design concept responds to the area's history of floods with a site design that references the undulating grades and forms of a river flood plain. The subtle grading accommodates required storm detention as part of the landform; a planned park to the west will serve as a future campus storm detention facility and the new location of the Kiser native plant garden. Native plantings, green roof elements and porous pavement are part of the sustainable design strategy.
